about
This song comes from the Elokai Nitzor paragraph, the only portion of the Amidah (the silent standing devotion) that is written in first person singular. All of Jewish prayer is uttered in the plural form, “heal us, save us, bring us peace.” This last paragraph, said in private prayer and not repeated by the prayer leader, is the only time in Jewish prayer that one makes personal supplications and requests. This is not only true in the High Holiday liturgy, but in all concluding portions to the Amidah. For this reason this section is dear to me and I have written 3 other songs from it (Elokai Nitzor, Asei L’Ma’an and Y’heyu L’Ratzon).
On Yom Kippur this special insertion asks HaShem to lend a hand to the Teshuvah - repentance - process. The ultimate sign of true repentance is never committing the same treasonous act over again, regardless of the temptation. At this moment on Yom Kippur I am truly remorseful for my misdeed(s) and I liken myself to one who is prepared to forfeit my own life for His glory, I even liken myself to an unworthy vessel. Today, He can do with me as His will deems fit, but tomorrow I may not feel myself in His presence, I may be again tempted, so please, “May it be Your will, Lord, my G-d and G-d of my ancestors, that I no longer offend, that I no longer offend” help me do this properly.

Lyrics - Translation
May it be Your will, May it be Your will, May it be Your will,
Lord, my G-d and G-d of my ancestors that I no longer offend, that I no longer offend.
May it be Your will, May it be Your will, May it be Your will,
Lord, my G-d and G-d of my ancestors that I no longer offend, that I no longer offend.
My life is but dust, how much more so my death, My life is but dust, how much more so my death.
Behold I stand before You, like a vessel filled with shame and offensiveness.
Behold I stand before You, like a vessel filled with shame and offensiveness.
My life is but dust, how much more so my death, My life is but dust, how much more so my death.
Lord, my G-d and G-d of my ancestors that I no longer offend, that I no longer offend.
May it be Your will, May it be Your will, May it be Your will,
Lord, my G-d and G-d of my ancestors that I no longer offend, that I no longer offend.
