about
This is Tefillah - prayer - is the last paragraph of the daily Amidah - silent prayer. It is the only prayer that is not written in the plural. Usually when Jews pray we pray for all: Help us; save us; we thank You, etc. In this personal prayer we ask God as individuals to help “ME” against speaking with evil intent and to thwart the evil intensions of others. We ask this even if we are unworthy of His involvement. Instead, He should do it for His sake.
This song was written on the first anniversary of my marriage to my wife Kathy A”H. We got married the year before in a beautiful courtyard on Mt. Zion just outside of King David’s tomb on the first night of Chanukah. One year later, we had a gathering of friends at our home for candle lighting and “latkes” and I presented Kathy with this song of love to her as an anniversary gift (I also got her something “real” that reflected our commitment).
